Portland Fitness Activities – Outdoors
If you’re an outdoorsy type, there is no shortage of scenic natural beauty in Portland. The summers are gorgeous with perfect weather for your work-outs. In winter, most natives are immune to the rainy conditions, and working out in the mud reminds you to stay childlike in spirit and only adds to the fun of it! For outdoor Portland activities, there is biking (on or off-road), jogging, walking or hiking on one of Portland’s excellent park trail systems, skiing or snowboarding nearby on Mt. Hood, fishing, kayaking or other water sports on any one of the rivers or streams, (or even nearby on the Pacific ocean), rock climbing, disc golf, golfing, swimming, soccer…well as you can see, the list is long and is limited pretty much only by your imagination and desire to get out there, and get moving!

Portland Martial Arts
Ecole de Budo, (7506 N. Chicago Avenue) Ecole de Budo in the Portland neighborhood of St. Johns offers beginner and advanced classes to all ages in Aikido, Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo, Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido and Ashtanga Yoga. Michael Selin and his crew at Ecole de Budo have invested a year converting the previous Wesleyan Methodist Church buildings in St. Johns into a new neighborhood landmark. The original church buildings had been constructed beginning in 1926. The spectacularly remodeled facility features a martial arts studio (for Aikido, Jodo, Iaido) in the main building and a separate Yoga studio. The grounds are being converted to a Japanese-style garden, providing a peaceful interlude for visitors and a pleasant addition to the neighborhood. Renovations were completed in August of 2006 and the school is open for all students.
